Feature: Pride Housing Solutions

I met Ron and Abby at one of Liz Georges’ networking cocktail parties. (You’ll hear more about Liz in an upcoming blog.) Their matching purple shirts stood out as much as my orange toenails did and I definitely wanted to at least introduce myself. I ran into them again at 1 Million Cups – Mishawaka, and after I shared more of my own story, Ron approached me for a 1-on-1 to share more of their story with Pride Housing Solutions.

Ronald Lard and Abbigail Wilson are the power couple behind this business and this is how they describe themselves, “Junk removal and recycling company, small and local. Me and my fiance power team of two. Serving the Michiana area we do junk hauling, junk removal, handyman work, interior demo, mowing, trimming, edging, bush shaping, dumpster rental, lead paint remediation, waste & recycling management services. Licensed and insured.”

Abby is originally from southern Indiana, affectionately, Kentuckiana, and after a few years in the Lafayette area, she met Ron on a dating app and moved up to northwestern Indiana sharing, “I basically already decided I was gonna marry him someday.” Ron is a Mishawaka native, graduating from Mishawaka High School, shortly following that up with graduating from Ohio Technical College specializing in diesel tech. Immediately before they started Pride Housing Solutions together, Abby was selling windows and doors at trade shows and other retail spaces. After realizing the management wasn’t strong enough and that the gig wasn’t cutting it, she had her hours cut. Ron was working with a realty company doing trash removal and assisting with office/administration duties and other responsibilities like answering phones, processing work orders, getting repairs done. Additionally, he would be tasked with walkthroughs, collections, and other maintenance items like changing locks. Overall he enjoyed what he was doing, but he especially enjoyed foreclosure clean-outs in bigger properties.

Ron and Abby take the time to communicate with their clients and definitely make sure their needs are met. They also donate as much as they can to local donation centers. The goal for Pride Housing Solutions is to grow and give as much as they can back to the community. With trash and recycling management we are hoping to change the way people view trash. It doesn’t have to be an eyesore or just clutter. With the right upcycling it could turn into a blessing for someone else.
